 I did a price comparison utilizing EFL's and my historic energy usage. Champion Energy's rates and breaks matched well with my profile giving me the most energy at the lowest possible price. So far the costs are tracking to my estimates and that means I am saving money each month. This makes me happy and a little richer.
I have not seen any promotions and don't expect any so I could not give that category a 5 star. But, if one comes along Champion should get the 5th star.

 I have been with Champion Energy now since 2015 and I can honestly say I have never been happier with an electric company. I receive weekly usage reports so I can adjust my thermostat according to what my usage is. I also like the graph they provide in the report so you can see your hourly usage and what time of the day you used the most electricity. Most importantly, they offer online payments which is very convenient.

Maybe I should have stayed with Champion

 I found Champion on PowerToChoose two years ago when we moved to Texas. They got great reviews and offered competitive rates. The customer experience was really good - I always knew what was going on with my account, there were no surprises or glitches along the way. When renewal time came around this year, the rate increase was pretty substantial, which was to be expected to some extent because everyone's rates are rising. I cross-shopped and found another company that beat Champion's rate by a significant margin, so I switched.

Suffice it to say the customer experience with the new company hasn't been nearly as good as it was with Champion. Not everybody makes it as easy to business as they do. Don't take this for granted - it is possible to take a big step backward in this area by switching to another provider.

Rates still matter but, looking back, I'm much closer to indifferent on whether or not I should have renewed with Champion. Staying with them would have cost more and would also have avoided some headaches. If you're considering Champion and their rates are close enough for your liking to the cut-rate providers, there is definitely a case for choosing them. If they just made the renewal offer a little more attractive it would have been a no-brainer.

Outside salespeople

 Champion hires other companies to go door-to-door, selling their services. The person who signed us up told my mom that she should be getting a discount of up to 40% because she is over 70 and that she could get the discount after her first full bill if she signed a 36 month contract. The only discount that Champion offers is a 10% and that is only on a 24 month contract. They took the person's information, but as he does not work directly for them, I doubt that there is anything they can really do. Personally, I felt that they could have offered her the 10% discount at least for the 24 months, but her contract is too long. On top of all of that, her bill was actually $70 higher than with her original company. We're stuck for 35 more months, and then we are out of here. Champion made no effort to make things right, and they should and could have done better.

New customer. Just got my first bill. Very happy so far. You can get $50 credit if you want...

 I switched from another Texan electricity company who made one set of plans for new members and a much higher plans for existing members.

Champion Energy sent me a $50 promo for LED bulbs, offers a $50 credit for any new referrals (the referral also gets $50 credited to their first bill), and their communication has been excellent.

Every week they send an email containing a chart of my previous and current electricity usage, along with the related temperatures for those days/nights, plus they project how much your estimated bill will be for the month.

This level of communication has been a drastic difference from my old provider who offered none of this.

I hope that after my 2yr contract expires they continue to offer the same prices to me as a current customer as they did a new customer.

 It was very easy to switch and the price is very satisfactory. So happy to know I have this price locked for 2 years and I hope i'm able to get just as good a deal when that happens. Paying online is easy and I like the weekly usage report I get for our electricity. Makes the upcoming bill expected and less of a shock. Very happy with Champion Energy Services.

Worst systems I have seen in 50 years

 After being with champion for two months (starting Jan 2017) A new property was being developed a mile down the road and in the process of them trying to get power ... our power was shut off for days!!!

When I tried to call champion, it was impossible to get a hold of someone and then took them days to get it figured out

they explained that it was because of human error and due to addresses and such and promised to make it right with us ... but we've never seen one penny of reimbursement for losses

In that process They started a second account for us and said they would have to delete the old account... everything was fine as long as we were going along under contract

After calling over 30 times in the last weeks to find out about a notice that was sent to a five year old email address that had to picked up out of Oncore's digital archives, the customer service person said well I see your current email address
(Which is the correct one and he could explain how they got the old address and why the notification for going out of service was sent to that address that was not given to them by us in the first place

Since he was the first person we had gotten a hold of after all those calls and 27 minutes on the phone he told me he would have to have someone call me back. I said I rather stay on the line and he said he was sorry but he could not do that and HUNG UP ON ME. Wow!!!

I highly doubt that I'll get a callback...

The young man said since we are out of contract we would be paying nearly double for our electricity and Said he cannot backdate it to when the contract ended a week ago.

Wow again!!!

So the longer they wait to get a hold of me and resolve this they will continue to charge me double for my electricity

this is outrageous... I don't know what you would actually call this it's not extortion... it seems somewhat like I'm being hijacked or held hostage but however you slice it it's incredibly poor customer service.

Call the Texas utilities commission tomorrow when they open back up ...

By the way I think this is the second review I have done in my life.

I remained calm on the phone and was just trying to get this resolved ... Wasnt upset with the guy... just asked if he could put a supervisor on the line... but clearly being calm and kind doesnt work with these folks.

Champion Energy Year in Review. Zero Stars.

 I have been using Champion energy for a year now, and I cannot wait for my contract to be up so that I can switch.
I live alone, in a tiny, one bedroom apartment. My daily usage is of some lights, a TV and a computer.
My first two months the bills were around $80 which seemed fair. Then the bills started to climb and by mid july, my bill was around $140. I called to ask why that was, because my AC doesn't work and my usage patterns hadn't changed. And to ask why the weekly reports said differently, with many odd energy spikes happening at night when I was asleep. The woman on the phone, Katherine, exasperatedly told me it was because it was summer or that it "must be my fridge" and tried to wrap up the call asking if "there was anything ELSE she could help me with". I told her there had to be a mistake and asked if there was any way to check. She said they could send someone to check the meter but that's it. I said thank you and she just hung up.
Two weeks later I got an email saying the meter was fine and nothing else.
In september I got an email welcoming me and saying I was enrolled, as if I hadn't been for six months.
Then even when the temperature started to drop, my bills stayed high with odd usage spikes even when I wasn't home. Until this month, one month before I would need to renew my contract, my bill is going to be $250.
In this same city, my sister's four bedroom house with a pool costs half that.
I have no idea how this company has such good reviews.

 Been using Champion Energy for 3 years and I must say that I am highly satisfied with the service I am getting. My friends and I compared our electricity bill and to my surprise my bill is the lowest even they have FREE WEEKEND Electricity. And now they would like to switch to Champion Energy. I chose Champion for so many reasons. First, they have a great customer service! They assisted me throughout my application and I got a response right away on my queries even though we communicate only through email. I gave them the date of my move-in in my apartment and I got electric connection without any problem. Their billing is so easy to comprehend and you have a choice to receive it thru email or hard copy. They provide customers a weekly report of the electricity usage so customers will know and can budget their electric bill in a month. Other electric companies will charge customers for a fee if you don't reach their required kwh usage. With Champion, I enjoyed the rates even though I am just using 393Kwh per month. There's NO HIDDEN OR OTHER CHARGES - customers only pay for the electric usage, Oncor charges and the Taxes. I did refer friends to use Champion and they are happy using it. And I would continue recommending it to others. I'm just glad I made a right choice and hope you'll do the same too! They are really a Champion in terms of providing electricity!

 When first signing up for Champion energy I was quoted a price and my bill was fine, that is for the first six months. Then suddenly my bill increased and doubled with no explanation. I decided to cancel my service after paying my final bill and have since been harassed via email and phone by Debbie Mulefu for what she is saying is an early termination fee. I never agreed to extend my service and its too bad that they are being given such a high rating. I believe that too is rigged and a lie. Apparently Debbie is unaware that once a consumer request that the company discontinue calling and emailing them it becomes harassment. Hopefully this email will make this clear or the $150.00 fee that they are trying to charge me will be paid ten times more to me for harassment. I have reported the company to the BBB and suggest everyone else do the same to ensure that these companies are transparent to consumers.

 This is our 2nd year using Champion Energy. Our apartment is roughly 1000sqft (3bed/2bath) and we run the ac constant. We keep it around 75 degrees and our bill ranges from 90-110(ish) in the hot months. In the cold months it def starts to drop bc we rarely need the heat on and we like to keep the windows open. So Id say maybe 60ish max in the winter.

Ive never had an issue with the company. Ive never had to contact customer service as pretty much everything can be answered/accomplished on their website. But 5 stars for website functionality. Always able to use bill pay w/ no issues.

Overall, Id recommend this company

been stoked with them from day one, love the weekly updates on usage and everyone has been very nice from the start.
Our contract ran out this year and they rang me up and offered me a better price to stay! but I still had to shop the prices... I have to prove to my CFO they still have better pricing than others....and they did!

 I should of know I was gonna have problems the first day they told me my service was gonna start on the "18" and when the 18 came up there was no service, when I called they told me there was no transaction or notes on my non existing account. I've made payments through them, not the automated system, through THEM! and the following month I have a pending bill for last month, I check my bank account and there is nothing drafted. Even tho they specifically said the payment was processed! And when I ask they just say "there is no notes about that"

 Champion's prices are a little higher than some plans, but they're steady across usage, don't charge any monthly fees, and their customer service is great. I've been a big fan of theirs for awhile. They're a nice, easy provider with solid rates that you don't have to worry about scamming you.

 I have now been with Champion Energy for more than 8 months and the experience has been great! Amazing plans, rates, referral program, and regular usage reports. I definitely plan to stay with Champion for the foreseeable future. In fact, they already sent me an email for when I move with a direct link to set up service for another year. This company makes the consumer experience extremely easy and worry-free.

Disappointed in Communication and Customer Service

 I have been a Champion Energy customer for 15 months. I am a loyal customer, and I pay my bills on time (automatic payments), - I've even had previous energy companies offer to be a credit reference. I haven't had any problems with Champion Energy until recently. I looked at my bank statement and noticed the payments were increasing by significant amounts each month. When I called to discuss this, they told me my contract was up 3 months ago, therefore I'm now paying the very high variable rate. When I asked why I wasn't informed of this, Maria got an attitude and told me they emailed me a renewal notification. Well turns out they've had my email address on file wrong from the get go (they switched the order of my first and last name). Their lack of information has unfortunately, cost me quite a bit of money I wasn't expecting to pay, as my bills at this time last year were significantly lower. Times are tough, and when I asked if there was anything they could do to assist or any sort of credit they could apply, With her attitude, Maria said she couldn't do anything. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, she got Lydia on the phone and Lydia was not apologetic and kept insisting they emailed me, so this is my fault. The only option I had was to start a new contract or have my electricity turned off today (Friday) until I could get another company to come out on Monday. Reluctantly, I renewed as I can't go without electricity for 3 days, but I'm moving out in 3 months so I'm going to have to pay $150 early termination fee to cancel. Needless to say, I will not renew with Champion when I move and I certainly won't recommend to anyone I know. I was extremely disappointed with the customer service experience. I would expect much more from a company that has such good ratings and reviews.

Great Service!

 I've been with Champion a little over a year now. My experience with them has been very good. Any time I've called, people have been courteous and hold times are short. They're prices are very competative. I switched to a month to month plan when contract ended. The price was very good but you need to be careful since the prices seem to spike in the summer months. They have a great referral program too. You and the person that refers you both get $25 credit. i used it when I signed up. Overall, I've been very happy with Champion.

 I signed a 3 year contract with Champion Energy Services. Their rates are the best I could find. Signing a long-term agreement means I don't have to worry about my contract ending and being switched to a month-to-month rate. This summer by bills are 25-35% lower when compared to last year using a different electric provider. I'm very happy I made the switch!

Been using Champion Energy for a year

 Been using Champion Energy for a year and I must say that I am highly satisfied with the service I am getting. My friends and I compared our electricity bill and to my surprise my bill is the lowest. And now they would like to switch to Champion Energy.

I chose Champion for so many reasons. First, they have a great customer service! They assisted me throughout my application and I got a response right away on my queries even though we communicate only through email. I gave them the date of my move-in in my apartment and I got electric connection without any problem.

Their billing is so easy to comprehend and you have a choice to receive it thru email or hard copy. They provide customers a weekly report of the electricity usage so customers will know and can budget their electric bill in a month. Other electric companies will charge customers for a fee if you don't reach their required kwh usage.
With Champion, I enjoyed the rates even though I am just using 393Kwh per month. There's no hidden charges - customers only pay for the electric usage, Oncor charges and the Taxes.

I did refer friends to use Champion and they are happy using it. And I would continue recommending it to others. I'm just glad I made a right choice and hope you'll do the same too!
They are really a Champion in terms of providing electricity!

Wonderful service!

 I've been with Champion Energy for almost a full year now. I could not be any happier with this company. Their rates are very competative and their customer service is excellent. When I first signed up with them, the representative on the phone walked me through the different plans and I was able to find a great plan that gave me free weekends.

They a very user friendly website too. You can login into your account online and check your electricity usage, look at your plan, make payments and so on. Everything is easy to find and understand. I've been very impressed with them

I can say my 24 month plan has everything they advertised and more!!! What a breath of fresh air. I have had no complaints at all. Very easy to get in touch either by phone, online, or chat. They are right there. They do what they say they will do. What could be better than that.

 I just moved about 2 months ago and chose to go with Champion Energy because of their available plans and great reviews. I have the free time on weekends plan and it's awesome! I'm able to plan out my activities so that I can conserve and save during the week and do laundry, etc. on weekends. Everything about my experience so far has been great and hassle free. I highly recommend Champion Energy.

My contract will end very soon, and what surprised me is they offered me a rate almost half of the current rate( which is $9.3/kwh) I am enjoying . Isn't that amazing? I am already pleased with the service and yet they even offered a much lower rate. My electric bill doesn't go up to $20 per month. There's no hidden charges - customers only pay for the electric usage, Oncor charges and the Taxes. Try using Champion and you won't regret it!

Ex TXU customer looking for new provider

 I was a 15 yr customer of TXU. We recently sold our home (much quicker then we thought we would) We are moving to an apt until we figure out what we want to do for our next long term home. Long story short we lost a small reward card ($50-$60) on a TXU reward program because we moved from our home 8 days before the end of the reward cycle. No exception made for a 15 yr customer,that was willing to signup for new servivce, just not until my new place is ready on Jan 9th. As I said we werent talking about much money, its the principle, no loyalty for long time customer.

So due to the above mentioned issue, we decided to shop for a new provider. I used texaselectricityratings.com and found that champion is one of the only companies that actually took the time to respond to both positive and negative ratings. That says a lot to me about the company. Based on mostly positive rating and the response from the company to the rating they are recieving, I'm signing up as a new customer.

Bad Billing Practices

 Twice this year we have mailed in our check and they have sent us a notice that we were late in paying. Today when it happened my wife called them and told them that we mailed payment (through a postal box) 7 days earlier. Didn't matter. Not their fault. Well, it isn't our fault either. So now we have a late fee and a hit on our credit. Plus, she then paid by phone and they told her that if (when) the mailed check comes through that they will apply it as credit to next month's bill. Problem is that we do not have an extra $180 sitting in checking. But that's our problem. We have been with them for years and have never paid late. Plus, we have recommended them to many others. But no more recommending them since now we are being treated like slackers. I suppose they are all heartless and soulless corporations these days.

We have almost the same Kwh usage, it's just that their current provider charge them extra for not reaching the required kwh. I have explained to them that CHAMPION only charge you for your electric usage ,Oncor charges and the Taxes. They can't wait for their current provider contract to end so they can switch to Champion. They are really a Champion in terms of providinG energy services! Go and switch to Champion!

Good Service - Good Rates

 My husband and I moved from IL to Plano, TX in August of 2015. As part of our move, we were faced with a lot of choices regarding providers. In IL it's just ComEd, so it was difficult for us to decide on who to use here for this service due to the fact that everyone has different rates and in some cases a consumer may even pay a fine for not using enough electricity. What a joke! Before we signed up for this service, I read tons of reviews and called several places, as a result we decided to go with Champion Energy Services. So far, we never had any issues, no fees/fines that we incurred to date, the energy bill is predictable, they even send out weekly comparisons via email so you can track how much electricity you've used this week compared to last week. My monthly bill is pretty reasonable and very similar to what we paid in IL, except for in IL we also got an additional bill from the gas company. Here, electric bill includes my AC as well as heat, and is equal to what we used to pay in IL for just the electricity. Overall, I have no complaints so far and feel like we've made a good choice by using Champion Energy Services.

In addition, you are eligible for a $25 bill credit for each person you refer as well as your referral will also get the same credit towards their bill. If you would like to try it out, you can use the following referral ID, Tterzich51965, and we will both get the credit towards our bill.

Champion in providing energy!

 My friends and I are comparing our electric bill charges and they are shocked to find out that our electric bill is just less than $30. We almost have the same electric usage, except that their current provider is charging them for an extra because they weren't able to reach the required kwh per month. They can't wait for their contract to end and move to Champion. I am just grateful that I made the right choice in choosing my electric provider and I do hope you will do the same!!!

I recently moved to Texas and looked for the most affordable electricity provider. I did check online and read the reviews, and even tried their online chat to check how they will handle inquiries.

I chose Champion for so many reasons. First, they have a great customer service! They assisted me throughout my application and I got a response right away on my queries even though we communicate only through email. I gave them the date of my move-in in my apartment and I got electric connection without any problem.

Their billing is so easy to comprehend and you have a choice to receive it thru email or hard copy.They provide customers a weekly report of the electricity usage so customers will know and can budget their electric bill in a month. Other electric companies will charge customers for a fee if they don't reach the required kwh usage.
With Champion, I enjoyed the rates even though I am just using 393Kwh per month. There's no hidden charges - customers only pay for the electric usage, Oncor charges and the Taxes.

I did refer friends to use Champion and they are happy using it. And I would continue recommending it to others. I'm just glad I made a right choice and hope you'll do the same too!

I have been with Champion since May 2014. I have never had problems with billing or anyone in service.
The ordering process was very easy and I have renewed once. During renewal I was considering changing at which point my service rep worked up a spreadsheet for my comparison. She then gave me a competitive rate equal to new service. This never happens!! Champion takes care of their existing customers. Anytime I have a question I email my representative and she answers almost immediately.
And the referral plan is great too. But even without the referral plan or the best rate I wouldn't change because I like working with nice people.

Great Company that does what it says

 Update from a previous review. I have now been with Champion Energy for a few months now. Still a great company and the customer service is out of sight. They send email reminders to keep you in the loop. They quickly get on a chat session with you. And best of all they are on the phone in a hurry. As a comparison my first month with them I used approx. 1700 kilowatts and I am on the 24 month half price night promotion. I used the same amount the previous month with my old company and my Champion bill was $40 less. Rates are really good. And as they promote---There is no fine print.

 My husband and I just renewed and have been using Champion for almost 3 years now and are extremely pleased. The weekly power tracker emails are a great way to stay on top of energy consumption and the few times I've called in to customer service they have been excellent. However, I still decided to do some research with my renewal date coming up. Champion's rates are really competitive right now.  I wish I had found Champion Energy several years ago. Ever since I switched providers, my bill had been $40-50 lower than it used to be. They have so many plans to choose from as well. The rates are generally lower than other companies, and they have plans that give you free nights or weekends which is what I got and it's working great for me! Best Electric Company I've Ever Used

 I've switched electric companies so many times to save money. To me there is no reason to pick one over another other than price. But Champion Energy not only offers great rates, they have exceptional service with little extras like emails each week that tell you what your energy consumption was for the last week, how that compares to previous weeks, and what your bill is forecasted to be.

On top of the great service, they don't try to get you to lock in some low rate for 11 months only to jack it up after that. They emailed me and gave me the chance to keep my rate and lock it in for another 18 months. So I'm sold. They are great - best in class.

Extremely Happy I Switched

 I was previously using TXU energy and my bills were especially high for a one bedroom apartment. I decided to do my research and saw that Champion Energy had a lot of positive reviews compared to TXU's negative reviews. I decided to switch, that was about a year and a half ago and I have been happy every since! The only reason I put 4 stars for Billing is because there is no App for your phone to pay bills!

 I had been at my previous electric provider for over 3 years. I always had to wait at least 45 minutes to get someone on the phone. I had had enough. What a breath of fresh air Champion is. They have really great rates, a lot of different plans to choose from, and best of all you can get someone there in a hurry. No waits on the phone, instant correspondence via email. So far I couldn't be happier.Give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

Glad I switched!

 I switched to Champion Energy about three months ago, and I am so glad I did! The prices are much lower than my previous provider. I think this one of the few companies that doesn't add a base charge to your bill if you don't use a certain amount of electricity during the month. I've had no problems so far, and the $25 credit for using a referral code when I signed up appeared on my second bill just like they said it would.

Unbelievable!!

 First, I was told when I first signed up for the service that this was a budget billing account, meaning the amount is the same each month and then I would true up at the end of the contract if there was anything owed. SO, I set up my banking to pay the amount I was told and now this is the 2nd time they have disconnected my power for 21 days past due, this time it was $52, the last time it was $35 and the last time I discussed this in detail with them and they said the account was fixed and would not happen again. WELL, IT DID TODAY!!! I have several issues with this. 1. Why is the bill more than what I agreed to when I signed up for this account? 2. WHY on earth would they disconnect for such a low amount which isnt even 30 days past due? 3. WHY would they disconnect when temperatures outside are near 100 degrees? I explained to them I have animals and I cannot be left to go 24 hours without power. The customer service was lacking. THEY DID NOT CARE. Why is your policy to disconnect 21 days past the due date? IF I can cancel service and go with a different provider, I will. I explained to the CS Rep that I lost my job 3 months ago and I am only on my 3rd week at a new job and would be paid on Friday and that I had NO money to pay today, he didnt care and was very rude when he said as much. But if my bill is supposed to be the same amount each month and you can clearly see I pay the exact same amount since the first payment, WHY on earth would I be treated this way? No compromise, allowing me to set up a payment plan to pay Friday or anything. It was their way, period. VERY Dissatisfied and WILL NOT recommend anyone to Champion energy. I am glad to see so many people are happy with the service but be forewarned, the CS Reps obviously don't have a clue about their product otherwise, this wouldn't have happened to me a 2nd time. ABSOLUTLY RIDICULOUS!!

Good and Bad over 12 months

 Over the past 12 months I've experienced the good and bad of Champion Energy.

The Good:
Rates are competitive
Initiate and transfer electric service smoothly
Bill and apply payment on time
Helpful usage tools
Customer Service is professional, courteous, and answers on less than 3 rings.

The Bad:
Upon transferring service to a new location, a new account was opened. The current term plan failed to transfer to the new account. Although Customer Service was polite, 5 calls later over a 2 week period resulted in no change, despite many unfulfilled assurances. I was then informed their "contract dept" couldn't keep up with demand.

Obviously, I was forced to elevate the situation, and have decided I no longer wish to conduct business with a company that doesn't have the resources in place to properly service my account. Hard costs are one thing, soft costs (demands on my time) are the deciding factor.

Perhaps you'll have a better experience.

Great service and referral program

 After a bad experience with another company I switched to Champion Energy Services. The customer service has been great and my bill is not overpriced. I've been with them for 5 months and they have been an honest company. I am from out of state and was not accustom to so many companies and pricing. I have to say I am happy with them. They send weekly updates on your usage and provide tip on how to conserve. I encourage anyone new to choosing various electricity plans to look at the reviews on various websites.

When I looked up reviews Champion was ranked one of the highest for quality customer service. Like many others, I do not have anything bad to say. Champion also has an awesome referral program. I am an advocate for great service and appreciate the fact that there is no limit on the referrals.

 I've been using this company for almost six months now and can say that it is the best energy company I have ever used by far!! I have a 3 bed, 2 bath house and we have never had a bill over $135; where as before we switched it was generally around $195.00. They email you weekly with a usage report that helps you keep on track with your energy usage. The usage report also estimates your monthly bill, and generally it is almost spot on. I highly recommend this company and will be renewing my contract with them when the time comes.

 I have tried several companies since I have been in Texas and by far, the best and least expensive is Champion Energy. I average between 1000 and 1500 kwh per month and my bill is never over $125 even after delivery charges and so forth. I live in the heart of DFW and I still pay those low rates. Use code DPruitt12361 and receive $25 credit towards your first bill. Trust me, I do NOT work for Champion but I was just as confused when trying to find the best company. This one is the best! Wish I had found them first!!

 My 12 month contract is up and I have had no problems at all with Champion. I just renewed for 24 months, because I feel I will continue to be problem free. You can read my past review to see why I originally chose Champion and I still feel the same as before. I have not seen any of the price increases on Champions billing, except for Sharyland increases. Champion has all charges broke down for you to see, unlike some REP's who bundle everything together so you won't see the increases. Thank you for reading my review.

Champion decided Greed is better then Customers. I called customer service about all the new additional charges. Representative did not care!!! Its all about sucking more money out of your customers. Needless to say. I cancelled my service with Champion and signed up for service with a better company. Champion please do not reply to my review. Save the PR. You did not care when I contacted you previously.

I like the usage report options you can view on the online account as well as the clear description of all the costs going into the total that is included with every bill. I picked this company because of its mostly good reviews and lower rates than most other places, also the lower minimum usage (800kwh) was more useful to me compared to other companies typical 1000kwh because I don't use a lot of electricity.

 I switched to Champion 10 months ago for a great introductory rate. No problems, no hidden fees and the best part is my renewal is lower. Yes this time of year the rates are still pretty low, but I found a company with a lower rate and they met it and then some. My past experience has been that only new customers get the lowest advertised rates, and the don't care if you transfer service.
But Champion does want to keep your business. Their customer service even sent me spreadsheets comparing yearly cost of different plans based on my prior usage. This company has the right attitude and I think the fact that they have way more positive reviews proves it.

Use this referral number SScarboro86062 for $25 off your first bill. Or you might get a better deal without it? Check it both ways.

 Looking for a 100% Renewable plan - they only have 2 and there are several other providers that are less expensive. Liked the initial 6 month term that allows a short evaluation period, but wish they had a 24 - 36 month plan with a lower rate to lock in. Doing extensive research on complaints of all providers to make final decision. I have had no issues with Champion and the only reason I might leave is price.

Service Delivery Charge.... BEWARE!!!!!

 In the winter months [or so it appears], the service delivery charges on my electrical bills skyrocket. All year i have been charged, on average, approx. $3.00 per month for the 'service delivery charge'. Then in October, i start getting charged around $45+ per month for the same 'service delivery charge'. This is a ridiculous charge/amount. In summary, Champion Energy WAS NOT CLEAR when I signed up for/renewed my contract for service on what to expect with these fees and, how this will drastically affect your monthly bill/average kWh charge [AND APPARENTLY, ONLY IN THE WINTER MONTHS???]. They advertise their overall rates being cheaper than Reliant and TXU but that is simplify not true when you consider the significant increase in service delivery charges they say they pass on to us 'at no markup'. In my opinion, this is just a way for them to make money since winter months are typically less in kWh usage since many people use gas for heat. In summary, i signed up for a fixed kWh rate of .06100 and yet, my December bill reflects a 9.821 per kWh because of all the 'fees' they tacked on to my bill. Shameful... additionally, their online chat never works. Every time i try to use it, i get a message "online chat is offline, please call 800-xxx-xxxx". If you are not going to staff a customer care center to accept online chat, take it off your website.

Larissa, All customers are charged delivery charges from the utility and all electric providers charge this to the customer with no mark-up. In your case, Oncor's monthly customer charges are $5.25 a month plus their deliver charges of 3.33 per kWh. The difference between the 6.1 energy charge that Champion charges you, the 9.82 average price per kWh factors in the "all-in" rate based on your usage.  I thought I wanted to switch to Champion Energy for, among other things, the reportedly excellent customer service. After all, it is the highest rated in the state, with multiple awards for customer service, including serial J D Power Awardsfor customer service.

I had some questions before taking the plunge, so I emailed Customer Service. Twice. The second time was a few days later. This Customer got NO customer service. At All. I've gone to another company.

 I've been with Champion for a number of years, and I have always been impressed. But this year my contract expired, and to my discredit, I did not put the expiration date on my calendar b/c Champion has always notified me as the date approached. Not so this year. As a result one month's rate shot up so that my bill was about $55 higher than normal b/c the contract expired and I didn't know. I contacted Champion (which was very easy), and I was told that I had been notified several times. But I wasn't. I save EVERYTHING from Champion, and I never got the notices. I asked for them to renegotiate my bill for the one month I was out of contract, but all they would do is give me a $25 discount. So I will see how things go. Up to this point Champion has been a very good company, and assuming things continue to go well---that is, up front rates clear to understand, no hidden tricks on fees and such, good communication when I try to contact them---I will stay with them. I want to be fair, and maybe this one experience was just a fluke; I hope so. But I have my eye on www.powertochoose.com just in case I need to jump ship. As much money as these companies make, I don't understand why they don't give good customers the benefit of doubt when problems arise. How much money are we talking about here anyway? But maybe they need the money more than we do. Overall, I think you would probably be safe to go with Champion. Just keep your eyes open.

I was moving into a new apartment by myself (no roommates) so I wanted an affordable plan with a low rate. I have been with Champion for about 5 months and I absolutely love it! Whats cool is they email you a weekly usage report so you can compare the previous weeks usage with your current weeks usage. Even though I already have a low rate, I can adjust my thermostat according to what my usage is. You can manage your account and make payments online which is very convenient. Because I used someone's referral code, I got my $25 discount applied to my second bill which made me very happy!

Also, I had used one of the referrals here and got my $25.00 off my bill like they said I would. I wan't to thank all of the people that has used my referall code to save even more off my monthly bill. So, BIG THANK YOU!!
(I just signed up with Champion energy. I was with Sharyland and they deregulated, causing me to find a new provider. I tried to do my homework and found this review site. I am impressed with the reviews and what set them apart was someone with Champion monitors all reviews and responds to all of them. Good or bad. I called them to get service, but they didn't have Sharyland yet. I left them my phone number and thought no one would ever call me back. I was wrong! Paula called like she said she would. She looked at all the plans and got me setup in no time. Also while doing my homework, I found that they were on the JD Powers award web site and was the top of the list. I hope I don't sound like I am advertising for Champion, I was impressed with all I found. I hope I find that I made the right choice.)

I have never had a bill so high and the discounts that they claim do not help what so ever. I will be switching back to TXU and dropping Champion Energy do not believe what they tell you.

First, I am glad I missed the renewal notice because the rate they were offering was 6.9.
After, two calls and much frustration I was told they can give me $25 credit for renewing my contract or do me a favor and give me the rate that the first agent I talked to quoted me 5.9.
I simply wanted to adjust the billing charges that were made when I was out of contract and renew my contract. Response: can't enter two codes at the same time?? I asked to talk to a supervisor, the agent comes back with a message from a supervisor. Have to repeat again.
All I wanted was to bill me for my contract rate for the 1.5 months that I was out of contract and renew my contract. Not unreasonable in my opinion. They boast great customer service but can't help me with an honest mistake, in a reasonable way.

 I checked multiple reviews on many companies last year when we moved to this area and finally selected Champion Energy. Now after this first year, I do not hesitate to recommend them! I love the weekly email that a quick glance can tell me what we will likely pay that month and the usage compared to the past week. The bills are simple to understand, and I pay it online through my banks billpay system. I also just checked rates again on powertochoose.org to compare my renewal prices with the new customer prices and was surprised to find them the same, as it seems oftentimes companies will hook you with a lower price to get you in and increase it at renewal time. Highly recommend Champion Energy!

 Champion Energy has hidden fees. Don't allow them to lure you in with low kilowatt rates. They will charge you approx $65 electricity delivery fee per month(up from $2)from the pole to your house. The fee is a % that will equal 25% of your bill. I have been a customer for about 4 years and this contract is the first to include this delivery scam. I don't and will not do business with companies that mislead and scam their customers. I will be changing providers despite the additional fee Champion will charge me to get out of our contract. As a honest citizen of the USA I will honor this contract that I signed because I made a mistake and now have to pay my way out of it.

 I just signed up with Champion energy. I was with Sharyland and they deregulated, causing me to find a new provider. I tried to do my homework and found this review site. I am impressed with the reviews and what set them apart was someone with Champion monitors all reviews and responds to all of them. Good or bad. I called them to get service, but they didn't have Sharyland yet. I left them my phone number and thought no one would ever call me back. I was wrong! Paula called like she said she would. She looked at all the plans and got me setup in no time. Also while doing my homework, I found that they were on the JD Powers award web site and was the top of the list. I hope I don't sound like I am advertising for Champion, I was impressed with all I found. I hope I find that I made the right choice.

You can't set up an account to pay from and have to reenter the info over and over again each month. After paying online you can't get a good print out of your confirmation. Other then this we had no other problems and overall they are a good company to do business with. We would consider using them again.

I have recommended Champion to many people, sister, brother, and friends. I was shocked that the customer service representative could have cared less. I get that my usage is up, but this is a huge difference. My contract is about up and how can I renew my contract with this type of service.

Green Mountain caused a lot of issues with switching energy providers, but Champion Energy was very efficient and helpful with helping out with the issues (removing a large liquidated damages charge due to Green Mountain's mistake, etc.).  My company never received their first invoice. When the second invoice arrived with a balance due on it, we paid it the day it arrived. Two days later, a guy from Center Point was in my front lobby announcing to my employees and clients that he was there to cut off our power. When I called Champion, they said that yes, they had received the payments but it was just too late for them to stop the power cut off. Our contract had a $2700 early termination fee built into it so we were stuck for one year. Now we are changing as fast as we can. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH CHAMPION ENERGY AGAIN!

 It is hilarious that all of their responses tout transperancy. They are crooked. They have hidden in their terms that they KNOW no one reads that if you are late on 2 payments, they do not return your deposit. I recommended my parents to Champion and am extremely embarrassed that I did. My parents stayed with them for 2 years and were late on 2 payments. They paid their late fees and Champion is also going to keep their $350 deposit. There is no way a delay in payment for a probable $150 bill justifies a 9,000,000% APR (that's a guess). My parents asked to speak to a manger and got a very rude girl name Shaquanda (something like that) who told them there was a clause in the contract they never signed or even saw. She suggested they download the contract and read it. This is the treatment they give their customers. I hope you are not late on any payments and have to pay late fees and lose your deposit.

You can always go to powertochose.org and find the best rates available in your area. Champion is very far down the list right now if you sort by price. Don't settle for a crooked and expensive source of energy. BE SURE AND READ THEIR CONTRACT no matter how long or incomprehensible. This just happens to be one of the gotchas my folks were hit with. If they are this crooked, I'm sure the contract is loaded with gotchas.

Unlike several providers who will not return your deposit with 1 late payment, we are lenient in allowing up to 2 late payments because we understand that customers may easily overlook a payment. Also, we don't have any managers with that name so please email us at feedback@championenergyservices.com to look into your account further to ensure that you were given the correct information. Lastly, electricity contracts are long as mandated by the Public Utility Commission of all the information that needs to be disclosed to customers. We always advise customers to review the Electricity Facts Label of the provider they are looking at to see any additional fees that they may see on their bill to avoid surprises.

Champion's rates are in the ballpark (not the lowest but not the highest), and, based on my experience, it made it easy to renew. I've been using Champion for almost a year

 I've been using Champion for almost a year now and am extremely pleased. The weekly power tracker emails are a great way to stay on top of energy consumption and the few times I've called in to customer service they have been excellent.

However, I still decided to do some research with my renewal date coming up. Champion's rates are in the ballpark (not the lowest but not the highest), and, based on my experience, it made it easy to renew.

 I have been a customer for over 4 year - never a late payment. I mistakenly entered the wrong date on bill pay (one month later). The first notice (5 days after the due date) was an email disconnect notice. Wow. I paid the bill immediately and sent an email to that effect with a note that I entered the wrong date. One week later I received a paper cut off notice. I contacted two email customer service addresses (one on the cut off notice and one on their website) to tell them how I was unhappy with how they handled this issue. No one has responded. Really? Pathetic.

 I just signed up with Champion energy. I was with Sharyland and they deregulated, causing me to find a new provider. I tried to do my homework and found this review site. I am impressed with the reviews and what set them apart was someone with Champion monitors all reviews and responds to all of them. Good or bad. I called them to get service, but they didn't have Sharyland yet. I left them my phone number and thought no one would ever call me back. I was wrong! Paula called like she said she would. She looked at all the plans and got me setup in no time. Also while doing my homework, I found that they were on the JD Powers award web site and was the top of the list. I hope I don't sound like I am advertising for Champion, I was impressed with all I found. I hope I find that I made the right choice.

Was formerly with sparkenergy, and when they fell out of my service area for whatever reason it was, I don't know, I was sorely anticipating that I wasn't going to do as well again. But then found Champion - whoo hoo! Automatic/recurring billing via Credit Card, set it up and forget it, competitive rates which are promised and delivered, and no weird surprises or weird billing issues (a common complaint across many service providers). I could list all the problems I am NOT having, but it would be too too long! Glad I found you.

Last month and this month seemed little high but I thought it was the colder weather. I went over every bill from the time I switched to Champion and discover in Nov 2013 I began having a delivery charge, on November bill it was $103 but this month it was $170 on top of my normal bill. This was not on any other bill! This makes Champion completely out of the league for competitive rates in this area. Very upset and looking for another provider!

 I switched to Champion because they had a better rate. However after switching, my former provider talked me into coming back which turned out to be a huge mistake as they lied (see review of TXU titled Liars). When I contacted Champion to try and come back they were extremely helpful and true to their word. They conducted a "market track" which I found out from Public Utility Commission cost them money to do but was necessary in order for me to return. Also they credited the early termination fee back to my account which they did not have to do. Each customer rep I spoke with was helpful and pleasant. It is refreshing to find a company that follows through with what they say they will do. If this proves to be how Champion conducts business I will be a loyal customer for a very long time.

Delivery charges

 I was wondering why even though my usage has remained the same or gone down in some cases, why my bill remains high or is higher, so I compared a bill from April 2013 to my last bill posted in January 2014. Before you say that these are different times of year and not comparible, let me show you something:

April 2013: My usage x rate was 553 x 0.079 = 43.69 for usage x rate.

January 2014: My usage x rate was 663 x 0.063 = 41.77 for usage x rate.

To compare I looked at my last bill in January and there was a delivery charge of 21.42 and in April of last year there was no delivery charge. The only charges in April 2013 were a 2.19 customer charge, 1.23 energy efficiency cost, and less than $3 in taxes.

This last bill in January included 5.25 in customer charges, 21.42 in delivery charges, 1.23 in energy efficiency cost, and a base charge of 6.95. Oh, and the $3 in taxes.

My usage amount was lower in this last bill and my bill was higher!!!

I'm sure Champion has some story or PR spin of passing along the charges to me, but how can we, as customers, be expected to take this on? These added charges are more than half of what I pay in usage!!!!!

If I had the same rate as in April 2013 and charges and calculate by the usage in this last bill my bill would have been 58.80. That is over $20 more with these new fees!!!!

The math does not lie.

I will be looking for another provider and buyers BEWARE of Champion!!
